Watson Shipwrights founder, Andrew Watson, started sailing and boating from a very young age. Family time was often spent on or around the water and Andrew formed a lifelong fascination with watercraft that has led to 20 years in the marine industry.
In the year 2000 Andrew started working for local boat building legend Robert Botterill of J Botterill & Sons. Serving as Roberts’ last apprentice Andrew learnt and honed many traditional and modern boatbuilding techniques. Along with the values of old fashioned hard work, craftsmanship and integrity, until Roberts’ retirement in 2005.
Continuing his passion for boats, on Leaving Botterills Andrew commenced work with another well known local boat builder Jeff Casely, at Blue Marine and Fibreglass. Working under Jeff’s close eye Andrew continued to expand and hone his skills and knowledge in boat building and shipwright work, moving onto larger complex vessels and projects whilst never loosing sight of the craftsmanship and attention to detail instilled in him by Robert.
In 2010 Jeff sold the Sandringham arm of Blue Marine and Andrew moved on to work with the new owner Dean Wheeler, at Sandringham Marine. Andrews’ skills and experience quickly led to him becoming the leading hand and foreman, managing workflow and output for the growing company. Working closely with a dedicated team Andrew helped the company to deliver an exceptional quality of work and level of service to its customers, including some of the countries most distinguished sailors and largest yacht brokers.
In 2019 Andrew formed Watson Shipwrights, to enable him to pursue his passion for craftsmanship and service in shipwright work and boat building.
